“Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone was quoted saying the Sepang circuit was getting "shabby" from lack of care just hours before yesterday's Malaysian Grand Prix.

"It has become, if you don't mind, like an old house that needs a bit of redecorating," the New Straits Times quoted him as saying in an interview.

"It's starting to get a little shabby and looks a bit tired."His remarks come with wealthy neighbouring Singapore making noises about trying to host a Formula One race, something that has already drawn a sharp rebuke from Malaysia's ministry for sport.

Ecclestone acknowledged that it was difficult to keep Sepang tidy because of its large 260-hectare size but said the circuit had to put its best face forward."The circuit itself is fine, it's the general structure around," he said.

"There is rubbish all over the place and it's not really a good sign for Malaysia. We're on worldwide television and it needs to look good, much like in the beginning."Malaysia hosted its first F1 Malaysian Grand Prix in 1999 and last year promoters Sepang International Circuit (SIC) renewed the contract for another five years.

The Star daily meanwhile said Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had met with Ecclestone on Saturday to discuss extension of the Formula One contract beyond 2010.

SIC chairman Mokhzani Mahathir said Ecclestone's Formula One Management would hand over a draft agreement soon, and that the ball was in Malaysia's court.

We will study the draft agreement and see whether it is feasible to extend," Mokhzani was quoted as saying.”

Sekitar Litar F1 Sepang “shabby” – compang-camping?

Goblok kamu sang blogger!

Bernie Ecclestone kata Litar F1 kita dan persekitarannya “shabby” dan sampah sarap merata-rata.

Tetapi apa pula yang hendak kita kata tentang kenaikan 40 peratus kadar jenayah di ibu negara kita pada saat-saat para pembesar dan lidah rasmi mereka mendabek dada mengatakan “the good times are here again” (saat gemilang kembali semula)?

Sila baca laporan Agensi Berita Perancis (AFP) berikut yang berbunyi:

“Malaysian police will be made to explain a 40 percent surge in crime this year in capital Kuala Lumpur, with fears it will undermine a drive to boost tourism, reports said Sunday.

Deputy Internal Security Minister Johari Baharum said he wanted an explanation for the rising rate in the first three months of the year, which coincides with the start of a campaign to attract more visitors.

Malaysia is aiming to boost tourist arrivals to 20.1 million in 2007 up from some 17.5 million last year."We are very concerned about the increase in crime. I have been informed that over the last three months, there has been a 40 percent increase in crime in Kuala Lumpur," Johari was quoted as saying in the Star daily.

The minister said crimes on the rise include bag snatch thefts, gambling and vice activities including prostitution.

"This year is Visit Malaysia Year and we do not want the problem to smear the country's image," he was quoted as saying by the Bernama news agency.

The Malaysian government has been battling a soaring crime rate amidst criticism that the country's poorly-paid police force is inept and corrupt.

According to official statistics, the number of criminal incidents jumped 45.1 percent from 2003 to 2006, with 232,620 criminal cases recorded last year.”

Sekadar bertanya.

Dato.

Sharp of you. Nothing to worry la Dato. Shrewdness starting to appear, right?.

Lets look at little trading outlet. You wanna sell the same thing as your rival across the street, across the river, across the strait, or whatever.

Just outmanoeuvre, just outsmart the rival!!. And it is going to be a dangerous game. We are going for a long long walk.

How do we get into this game? Some say we invite ourself in. Some say we get hooked. Some say we get cornered. I just hope that we are ready for a real game.

When he asked Proton to be competetive the other day, then i know whats to come. The notion "liberal", being stretched abit too far!!

I dunno Dato. But is not possible to equate a country like a business enterprise? Some equate Libra ECM thing like a snake swallowing a dragon. Similarly, a little country trying to swallow a bigger country.

But why not, especially when the gatekeeper isnt aware or arm twisting proved effective. Aha!

I read somewhere, never get yourself caught pants down. But then, what can little folks do? I dont think our role is limited to just putting X on a ballot slip only.

(sorry Dato, saya tak pandai nak articulate benda-benda macam ni)

Walau bagaimanapun , rakyat disarankan supaya berfantasi 'feel good' -keadaan negara kita sekarang aman makmur dan bahagia.

salam to all,
that's what happened when the pembesar themselves dreaming, and worst, expect the rakyat to share the dream... isn't it fake... i believe by-elect. machap and ijok would send the message across.

last weekend i pass thru machap baru (on my way back to my hometown). shock to see how fake they are... in the middle of the small cowboy town another project by kerajaan bn is being developed... a playground similarly to the one at housing area in kl, with gliterring black tar access road ready to use within 2 day time. .... so luxury for the locals. (this appeared on tv last night)

could also be seen, many bmw all series, x5, all class of mercs and countless perdana v6 all over and they came in verity of single and double digits registration nos. everyone was so polite, friendly with endless smiles. (however this wasn't appear on tv)

but as i cross out the border of machap, i smell something stinks... they are all fake.

"Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Monday bloggers will not be forced to register themselves, but existing laws will be used to exert more control on irresponsible blogging.

"Even if we asked them to register there will be those who will go by other names and will use other channels, including using servers outside the country," Abdullah told reporters.

"This is not something we are considering at the moment and it has to be properly studied as there are existing laws and regulations to be considered," he said.

Terima kasih.

Tapi kalau tengok melalui kaca TV cantik aje! Mungkin bBernie telah termakan dgn pujuk rayu negara todak who will stop at nothing to achieve their aim. A very2 good neighbour indeed.
45% increase? Hey brother PDRM , aren't you doing your job? Pertukaran ini never stop at that, most of the supporting officers in criminal section , recieve the same fate thus creating a vaccume not only in term of man-power but also knowledge. Intraction with members of public being suspended because it may take time to foster such relationships.

Pasai nak paksa blogger register.. tu kerja orang tarak kerja.. Takkan takut kat perempuan sama penganggur? Sampai nak dipaksa mereka-mereka ni untuk register. Hehehehe..

Kadar jenayah tinggi? Tu kena tanya siapa yang pegang keselamatan negara la. Polis, KDN dan yang sewaktu dengannya. Awat jadi lagu tu? Bih tu, benda-benda macam ni kiranya ikut kepala. Kalau kepala jahat, abis semua jadi jahat. Kalau kepala korup, abis anak buah pun korup sama.

Kata Memanda Perdana Menteri;
"...bloggers will not be forced to register themselves, but existing laws will be used to exert more control on irresponsible blogging.

"Even if we asked them to register there will be those who will go by other names and will use other channels, including using servers outside the country...."

Kata Datuk;
"...jelas bahawa Perdana Menteri lebih mengetahui mengenai Internet dan blog berbanding memanda menteri penerangannya Sdr Datuk Zainuddin Maidin..."

Kata saya;
I think its all destined to make the PM look good or at least in a commanding position over the rest of the Cabinet.

Datuk,

I came across this posting in Malaysiakini...

"Abdullah said the government would instead study existing laws to see how they could be properly used to clamp down on bloggers if necessary.

"There are laws in the country and they will be enforced when they need to be enforced," Abdullah said.

"I know there are many who have now regretted their activities of posting their folk tales on the Internet," he said

..."folk tales"?? kalau benar apa yang dilaporkan Malaysiakini dan "reading in between the lines, not just on the surface" maka pada hemat saya Kerajaan Hadhari ini hanya menunggu masa untuk "clamp down" bloggers...

Kadir,
F1 Circuit and crime rate are just two issues. In actual fact, we are heading south on all fronts.
You just name it - education, judiciary, delivery system, good governace, corruption perception index, foreign investment, national unity, religious tolerance, press freedom, etc.
The very people entrusted with running the country are destroying it.
Looks like the situation is beyond redemption.

If only the F1 Boss were to go to other parts of the country, then he can see that littering is not a monopoly of the F1 Circuit only. I was there to see the race for a little while. Familiarity do breed contempt, and you can see that the high standards once maintained has begun to drop. And drop badly.

The media has a role in this, but media bosses would rather cam[aign their own in-houise programmes like hosting Big Walk, fishing competition and so on. People like Manja and Hishamudin take pride in being photographed for in-house events and use them in colour. If the media were to get back to basic, they can educate the F1 crowd and champion cleanliness, good behaviour, apart from showing a friendly disposition. Other media bosses attend launches of their manufactured sales campaign.

You mention Dato Zam - well, he's forgotten his roots as a journalist and editor. He's now a Cabinet member without grassroot. In order to stay in the Cabinet, all Zam needs to do is to please his boss. Zam is out of touch, living only in his make-believe glory of the old days. His theory of communication is based on his Utusan days, and those days are long gone. He doesn't read the blogs 'cos he's not IT savvy. He get his PA to read his mail, make printouts of blogs and read them in his car. His perjuangan now in narrow and personal. Otherwise, why would he accept the Tokoh Wartawan Negara given by the MPI? As a serving Cabinet member, he should have declined. After all, he got the award after declaring that his ministry is giving RM5 million to the MPI to spruce itself up!

Now, he feels that he is still the wartawan. Sudahlah! Zam should do the dignified thing by giving back the award to the MPI and suggest Said Zahari be honoured instead! Buty Zam won't do this. Such things are only done by men with honour and dignity!

salaam tok

pada hemat kami;

Sdr Kawan,

To be fair to board members of the MPI, not all of them are agreeable to the RM5-million promised by Minister Zam.

If I am not mistaken attempts to change the structure of the Institute to satisfy the RM5-million offer have not been successful.

Some members of the MPI board fear that changing its structure for the RM5-million offer will undermine its independence.

Betul kata Sdr Wong Soga. Kita tak utamakan penjagaan. Apatah lagi kalau pembesar tak ambil kisah.

Zaman Tun Dr M dulu dia lawat mereta pelusuk negeri.

Hari Isnin Datuk Bandar terima panggilan telefon.

Tapi bila kucing gemuk tidur, tikus mondok menari dan berpesta.

Tudurlah wahai permaisuri, tidurlah.
Pejam mata, tidur lena, mimpikan bahagia.

kenyataan dari timbalan menteri hari ini,
kadar jenayah naik 40% kerana tiada ketua polis KL.
saya sedang memikirkan lojiknya

A KADIR JASIN said...

Sdr Ron,

1. Kedudukan dan keadaan ekonomi yang tidak menentu;
2.Pengangguran dan guna tenaga yang bermasalah;
3. Kenaikan kos sara hidup yang direstui pemerintah;
4. Kelemahan penguatkuasaan undang-undang and peraturan (law and order);
5. Rasuah dan penyalahgunaan kuasa;
6. Kehilangan hormat kepada pihak yang buakasa, termasuk politik;

The Deputy Minister should be more convincing and truthful. Not every Malaysian can be lied to and taken for a ride. Many Malaysians are intellectually superior to many politicians and more knowledgeable as well.

Terima kasih.

1,500 homes spared from RM50b project

By EMBUN MAJID

ALOR STAR: A total 300 houses in Yan will make way for the RM50bil Yan Petroleum Industry Zone (ZIPY), which is due to start operating by 2010.

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the number of affected houses had been reduced from the original 1,800 houses targeted earlier.

“Satellite images of the ZIPY have shown that only 300 houses will be affected compared to earlier mapping images which indicated more than 1,000 houses have to make way.

“The 300 kampung houses will be relocated to a site about 500m away,” he told newsmen after opening the 9th Malaysia Plan (9MP) Seminar for local entrepreneurs here yesterday.

He said the first phase of ZIPY involved 600ha of land, of which 80ha would be re-claimed from the banks of Sungai Limau and Sungai Sala. About 70% of financing was through direct foreign investment from Saudi Arabia, China and Iran.

Mahdzir said Merapoh Resources Corpora-tion Sdn Bhd would begin the groundwork on ZIPY in August and the affected houses would be demolished within several months.

He added that the first refinery plant was expected to be completed by May 2010 and operate in December the same year.

Mahdzir also said the Environmental Impact Assessment study on the project by a consultant company had begun and would be completed within three months. The consultant was also conducting a study on the impact of the project on fishermen.

“We know that some quarters, especially non-governmental organisations, will raise questions on the project. Thus, we will meet them to explain about the project,” he said.

Last month, Mahdzir had told the state assembly sitting that three companies – SKS Development Sdn Bhd, Trans-Peninsula Pe-troleum Sdn Bhd and Merapoh Resources - had been identified to carry out the project.

My answer: Perhaps you Dato' Kadir have been mixing with too many Malays, which explains your suspicion rather than go to SIC yourself and check out how correct Bernie was. But then, I don't think you would do that.

Dato', come on la, get rid of that typical Malaysian Malay Malaise (haha!) whereby you immediately suspect 'others' and think negatively of them before looking at your own backyard.

You're starting to sound like a Malaysian politician! Anyway, I'm still glad that you expressed your concern about SIC, even by raising the wrong kind of question.

Due to my work, I go to the Sepang circuit a bit more often than most people. In fact, I'm going there again on Friday (gosh, the 13th!) for an assignment.

This year alone, I have been there about a dozen times and yep, Bernie was spot-on when he commented on SIC's condition.

The sadder part was news about Singapore working on hosting an F1 round has been around for so long and yet, SIC didn't do anything to give SIC (its building, pits, paddock, toilets, seats, the whole jingbang) a makeover, at the very least.

If there ever is a 'kempen psikologi' to bring down the image of Sepang', as you (Dato' Kadir) suspiciously called it, well I can safely tell you that SIC is the campaign manager, then!

We only got ourselves to blame if we lose the hosting to Singapore. Call me a defeatist but I have a feeling that we're not going to host F1 rounds every year forever.

Some local clown talked about Malaysia hosting it at one end of the season while Singapore doing it at the opposite end.

It was immediately shot down by someone in FIA (not sure whether it was Bernie or someone else or a team principal) who said that it was silly for the teams to fly twice to SE Asia to race.

And for M'sia & S'pore to do it one after the other is just as pointless.

Well, that's how I see it. My personal view. Many will disagree with me, of course.

- AZLAN RAMLI.

F1 is getting to be a stale cuppa.

What the heck!
If Silverstone got dumped so what is new? It would be pointless to travel to europe back and forth for that matter, too.

Now, there could be a Monte Carlo East so why not Singapore demand her share of the F1 glitters. It's the question of the weather and safety.

Of course, there's the A1 to promote. 1min 34sec is a tad slow for Sepang Circuit, what with the three lines to choose from. A1 just need to engage in turbo drive instead of the nox thingy. Well, that's Jackie S and the Sheikh M to think about.

Sdr Kaki Pendang,

Sdr Anonymous/Azlan Ramli,

Terima kasih atas pendapat dan penjelasan sdr. Itulah pun tujuan posting kali ini -- sekadar bertanya.

Tak apalah kalau saya menderita Malay malaise -- penyakit Melayu.
Saya tidak malu jadi orang Melayu. In fact, I am proud being a Malay.

As for Singapore, I stand by my word that it survives and thrives by taking advantage of its neighbours, particularly the weak ones.

Terima kasih.

Dear participants,

Let's get back to the issue, i.e the allegation that sepang has become tired and shabby.

I was merely asking for answers or clues as to why this has happened?

Who bungled? Who fell asleep while the Singa is roaring for our flesh?

The owner of the track? The operator of the track? The local council? The Government?

We can't say let's forget about Sepang and about hosting F1. We had spent alot of money, time and energy to make it a success.

It has helped put us on the world map. It brings us fame and with it fortune (income).

There's nothing wrong with Sepang circuit. Drivers, engineers and spectators love it.

We can't allow inapt management and poor maintenance of the surrounding to destroy the reputation and goodwill that Sepang has acquired since 1999.

Thank you.

Dear Dato and readers,

Every physical thing built will have to go through the few basic phases: plan, contsruct, use, maintain. Upgrade would be a phase needed to boost up its performance.

Sepang Circuit is just another physical item that has to go through the phases. PM did mention about maintenance mentality once. Media splashed it out on front page.

I guess seeing things done is an enhanced action compared to just saying it out. Some would term it as monitoring. For 22 years Tun has shown how monitoring best done, with his little notebook and little pieces of paper.

The brighter ones will quickly pick up that excellent working habit. The less bright ones will never pick up tips and hints.

I remember what Tun said before: " To excell and be competent is to do things repeatedly"

Good habit doesnt come from big beautifully wrapped "KPI" manual, but from few common sense known by laymen.

So lets review, lets monitor, lets go down to basic!!! Life is a testing ground for the hypothesis " survival of the fittest "

There, there's another penyakit that you have, the 'TAK APALAH' attitude. Gosh, you sound more moronic than you were a few days ago!

What are you trying to say? That it is all right for you to have that blame-other-people-even-before-I-look-at-myself attitude?

Hey, don't get me wrong. I wasn't telling you to be embarrased being a Malay. I know you are proud of being one.

Just because you have a penyakit Melayu, doesn't mean you have to be malu. Just fix the damn illness la.

But if you still go about your life and not doing anything about that stupid illness, then you are simply a 'muka tak malu' - where your ethnicity is irrelevant by then.

But the fact that you said 'Tak apalah...' was a disappointment, since it was from someone like you. If it was from a moron yang tak complete sekolah rendah tu, I understand la...

We deserved the criticism by Bernie/FIA. It was a valid telling off. Simple as that.

# You also asked these: "Who bungled? Who fell asleep while the Singa is roaring for our flesh?

"The owner of the track? The operator of the track? The local council? The Government?"

Now, that's more like it! Those are the kind of questions we should ask ourselves. Not immediately create that 'kempen psikologi' rubbish! That is so typical of many Governments' way of creating fear among the rakyat!

If we do lose the F1 hosting, it is because of our fault! We even go to the extent of demolishing a race track few years ago so I'm not surprised we can bungle something like hosting an F1 round. We are experts at screwing up good things we got and then, cry over the spilt milk!

# "As for Singapore, I stand by my word that it survives and thrives by taking advantage of its neighbours, particularly the weak ones."

Most of us know that la! It is old news. We agree with you, ok.

But should we blame Singapore for that?

If you are a wee piece of real estate - which is a prime and lucrative location for ships to stop by (among many other things) - surrounded by giant neighbours, don't you think you will be paranoid too?

Besides, it is SE Asia's rep for the US/Israel. Tell us something new la...

Bila difikirkan, banyak isu berpusatkan kepimpinan. Disitu bermulanya langkah awal.

Kecualilah pemimpin selesa diusung kemana-mana tanpa halatuju.

I guess we just have to play to the tune. Now what is the tune in the air??

Sekian, terima kasih. Teruskan menulis Dato'...saya memang regular reader blog Dato'.

From azlan ramli to layu hadhari:

Yob, jangan lari tajuk. Stay on the subject. Sepang circuit is in bad shape. Someone said it is, which is true, kan?

Now, Singapore wants to host F1, where they will make everything look better, function better, etc. We all know the have the capability of doing it.

If we keep on moaning and groaning about the possibility of losing the round, then do something about it la! Like giving the circuit a makeover, AT LEAST.

It doesnt matter if Bernie is No 1 in FIA or whether he has problems in FIA, the fact remains - whatever he says will affect many things one way or another, as far as racing is concerned (anything governed by FIA).

If you seriously think he is a nobody, then please advice and convince our Govt not to worry. Tenangkan people who are wondering what we can do to keep on hosting the F1.

It doesn't matter if FIA is fraught with corruption. The fact is, we can lose the hosting of a round. Problem or no problem, FIA has the final say.

At the end of the day, SIC is in bad shape and in dire need of a makeover, no one can deny that.

malayu hadhari, the way you write is very candy-sucking juvenile yourself - below 15 years old, definitely.

No problem
love the candy, kid.

Soso jerk said it and you are a yes man?

F1 is at its death throes what with the major manufactureers are not too happy with the way things are being run.

Sepang in bad shape?
Wetlands in bad shape?
Putrajaya in bad shape?(Check out Wisma Putra)

Facilities at Monza any better or Franchochamp or Hungaroring?

The Dubai sand is all right with me; but ecclestone farted it's because they don't give candies to ecclestone at Sepang, perhaps?

So you think ecclestone is somebody? That is your problem.

The better one is A1.

I think the Sheikh of A1 is somebody. But let see what the GP people has to say.

Government worry about it or you?
Do you know that the F1 drivers are not that happy to drive in so many circuits, let them choose singapore for all I care, macau is famous and so is hongkong.

What about Jakarta to woo the market with european and japs engine, hu?

In monetery terms what do we get from F1?

How about that? So show me the light, kid. Or you are agrovelling and a snivelling to eccie?

We paid eccie to come here before, kid.

Troubled F1 arrives at the crossroads
By Kevin Garside in Shanghai

Formula One could not have had a more appropriate setting yesterday than Shanghai, a thrusting, chaotic metropolis at the vanguard of China's lunge toward modernity.

Shanghai surprise: beneath the surface celebrations of F1's newest venue, the sport is embroiled in politics

Like its host, which transports its people in rickshaws and cycles as well as 4x4s and levitating trains, F1 is replete with cutting-edge imagery, driven by a pioneering spirit, ever seeking new boundaries to cross.

But poke beneath the surface and layers of uncertainty and confusion are revealed. The sport's arrival in Shanghai symbolised F1's onward march, its determination to expand and flourish in countries hitherto ignorant of its charms.

A glance at grand prix racing's most advanced architecture, a £230 million edifice shimmering on Shanghai's city limits, spoke only of a sport succeeding. Elements of it do. But there are parts that are woefully undernourished.
Formula One is at a crossroads, its essence up for grabs. Is it a sport or a business? That is the question it is struggling to answer as a new day dawns in China.

Ford, one of the world's most significant car makers, served notice to quit at the end of the season. While some screamed good riddance to an organisation who failed to commit sufficiently to the great grand prix project, others feared a similar fate beckoned them.

The problem is that those teams on either side of the cash divide are no longer talking the same language. While the likes of Jordan, Minardi and to a lesser degree Sauber cling to the notion of F1 as sport, a unique test of man and machine, the major manufactures like Mercedes, BMW, Honda and Ferrari see it as a marketing device to flog their goods.

Not for nothing did Norbert Haug, Mercedes' sporting director, a contradictory title if ever there was one, claim China was the most important grand prix in the history of F1. His assertion had nothing to do with sporting values or with who might win the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, but the associated value of taking part for those with cars to sell in the fastest growing market in the world.

For Haug, it is important that Mercedes McLaren succeed to reinforce the global message put out in multi-million pound ad campaigns. The same is true in World Rally. In the 2003 Rally of Great Britain, Sebastien Loeb was ordered not to risk victory in order to guarantee a points finish and claim the constructor's championship for Citroen.

For the French manufacturer the power of the marketing message was more important than assisting Loeb in his dream of becoming a sporting champion of the world. Teams like McLaren and Williams, themselves former independents, have benefited hugely by the advance of the car manufacturers.

The alliance of these quintessential British teams with Mercedes and BMW respectively provided them with the budgets they needed to challenge the might of Ferrari at the top of the grid. It has also warped their perspective of a sport they claim to cherish, placing an insurmountable distance, financial and spiritual, between themselves and those without an industrial partner.

The friction that ensued has erupted episodically. In April, Eddie Jordan railed against secret plans to exclude the non-GPWC teams - a loose affiliation of major manufacturers in F1 - from the proceeds of a proposed cash share following a deal struck with commercial rights holder, Bernie Ecclestone, for greater returns from TV and advertising revenues.

And yesterday Jordan ribbed mercilessly Jaguar's Tony Purnell, who last week delivered the death knell to the Ford-backed team, and as a result placed Jordan and Minardi, powered by Ford engines from Cosworth, in jeopardy.

Purnell was busy making the case for a buyer to come in and salvage 350 Jaguar jobs at Milton Keynes by taking over a well-equipped, viable team.

Cash was not required up front said Purnell, rather investment in the future. Jordan, busy trying to find a buyer of his own to save Jordan from the same fate, in effect blamed Ford for his difficulties. Had Ford's engines been up to it, Jordan might have been further up the grid and in a position to attract the sponsors required to make ends meet, went the argument.

The petty squabble dominated the first press conference of the Chinese Grand Prix. Flavio Briatore, team principal of Renault, was apoplectic. Here was an opportunity to indulge in the glory of F1 on a historic occasion. Instead old sores seeped. The brave new world remained anchored in familiar, tired disputes.

Though appearances might suggest otherwise, the authorities in Shanghai have found a way to blend old and new. Common mores and rituals have been accommodated to allow the future in.

Formula One must do the same if it is to retain a sporting essence that compels millions to tune in. It must allow manufacturers to invest without corrupting the values that made F1 what it is. If the sport can pull that off, China might indeed herald the bright future everybody is so desperate to see.

As for scandals there will be the usual 'unproven allegations' but they will say the best is the China case 2006-2007 with the statistician: fraught with corruption.

Pasai F1.
