KEEPING his anointed successor in check appears to be Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s post retirement agenda.
And for that, he would keep the channel of communications with his nemesis, the Opposition Leader, Anwar Ibrahim, open.
That’s the best the outgoing Prime Minister could promise the Pakatan Rakyat’s de facto boss because “it was too late to do anything now” – like stopping Mohd Najib from becoming Umno President and Prime Minister.
This sensational development reportedly took place when the two “unexpectedly” bumped into each other at Madrasah in Hulu Langat, Selangor, yesterday.
According to Malaysiakini, the presence of the two leaders at the same table raised eyebrows as well as questions on whether the outgoing Prime Minister and the waiting-to-be premier (Anwar) are stitching a political pact.
"Anwar asked Abdullah how he could have entrusted the country to (Deputy Prime Minister) Najib (Razak), which the PM said it was too late to do anything now," Malaysiakini quoted a source.
According to the source, Abdullah hinted that he had a core of loyal supporters within the party who would keep Najib in check.
"The two leaders talked about the need to salvage the country and agreed to keep communication lines open between them," the Malaysiakini source said.
But The Star SMS services this evening quoted the Prime Minister as saying that there was no political agenda in his unexpected meeting with Anwar and dismissed speculations by several bloggers.
Political writer and blogger Mohd Sayuti Omar, who was at the function, said he was informed by the organiser that the duo had talks regarding the possibility of Abdullah remaining in power.
"What happened today was historical, we hope it works!" Mohd Sayuti quoted an organiser of the event as saying.
Whatever is the truth about the chance meeting, one thing is certain. The Pakatan Rakyat leaders are no fools. Sure they want Abdullah to stay on, if they can. They would not have been where they are today had Umno and the Barisan Nasional been led by a stronger leader.
No matter what he may say of Mohd Najib, Anwar knows that the Deputy Prime Minister is a threat to the Opposition. Mohd Najib has a better chance than Abdullah to win back the support of the Umno masses when he takes over, God willing, later this month.
After all, Anwar had once worked closely with Mohd Najib and was responsible for part of Mohd Najib’s career.
Knowing that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had a soft spot for Mohd Najib, Anwar was careful in his handling of the latter although he tried to use his vast influence on the mainstream media then to check Mohd Najib’s progress.
If indeed Abdullah told Anwar that his loyal supporters would keep Mohd Najib in check, the question is who are they?
Could Abdullah be referring to the likes of Mohd Ali Rastam, the Umno deputy president candidate in this month’s party election?
Abdullah could have a loyal ally if Mohd Ali triumphs over the front-runner, Muhyiddin Yassin, but his victory could cause more Malays will shun Umno, which is what Anwar and his PR cohorts want.
But Anwar isn’t a fool. He knows that trying to ride on Abdullah in his last days as the Prime Minister would be risky so he quickly played down the significance of meeting.
In his blog, Anwar said that people should not read too much into the meeting.
"There have been too many assumptions and interpretations regarding our presence at the event," he lamented.
In a separate development, Anwar suffered another setback when a panel of three retired judges cleared the Attorney-General, Abdul Gani Patail, and the Inspector-General of Police, Musa Hassan, of falsifying documents in connection with his beating a decade ago.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz told Parliament that the panel comprising Abdul Kadir Sulaiman, Wira Mohd Nor and Ahmad Nor Abdullah - all of whom are former judges of the Federal Court and Courts of Appeal -- found that the AG and the IGP did not commit any crime relating to the case as alleged by Anwar.
On March 5 the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that Anwar must face his sodomy trial in the High Court and not the Sessions Court.
that is the point exactly .. by meeting anwar abdullah has had somehow tarnished his image as ruling government leader.
ReplyDeletehe is the person with interest in government and ruling political party especially now when our political situation in jeopardy.
anwar is facing with the utmost and strong sodomy case against him and abdullah should NOT be seen or even be heard of meeting this chap over and over again.
for whatever reason dollah has somehow lost his bearings in managing himself ..... whatmore our country which he has helped put into sham....
bravo dollah flip and flop till the last day in office. he really lived to his standard.
bollocks........
Dato',

Dear Dato`
ReplyDeleteAwal-awal lagi dalam posting Dato` menulis,
KEEPING his apointed successor in check appears to be Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s post retirement agenda.

Regarding Pak Lah, there is nothing new.Everybody (from toddler to elderly) knows that ONLY few specific peoples want Pak Lah to retain his post as PM for their own interest. I don’t have to mention it again, do I??? If our current PM still has ‘insight’, he should know his limitation. It is up to Pak Lah to make a decision; either for the nation or for his own sake.
Regarding our coming soon PM, I think he is capable to accomplish his job. My advice is, first, he doen’t have to be intelligence but he has to make sure that his advisors are super intelligent in every disciplines and without bias (No family/ no crony / no ABC). Second, he must be brave enough to make a big unpopular decision including using ISA to maintain our nation stability. Without stability and harmony, our nation cannot achieve anything.
Good luck to you Dato’ Najib. From OKJ (Orang Kampung Je). TQ and good night.
Datuk,
ReplyDeleteMeeting is the agenda, the meeting is the message
Boy oh boy, its a great time to be a reporter, even better to be a blogger eh Datuk?
Datuk,
ReplyDeleteSince the meeting was done rather in the open over lunch in the presence of the host, I do not think they ever had the chance to discuss serious political topics. Whatever they said could well be heard by others. I think whatever have been reported thus far could be the gist of it all.
Datok Kadir'
Anwar pula saperti biasa bertanya Pak Lah salepas pencen nak buat apa.
Jangan Kita sedeh.
Dato,
ReplyDelete"What happened today was historical, we hope IT WORKS!" Mohd Sayuti quoted an organiser of the event as saying.
What does IT WORKS mean, only Dollah knows. So Orang Umno, you better watch it closely, as the voters will watch you closer.
BTW this religious group was banned by the late Dato Ishak Baharum - Mufti of Selangor a few years back. How come Dollah's people don't advise him on it.
Another Flip Flop ?
Dato KJ,
ReplyDeleteHow come Anwar have his lunch together with this Tok Ayah - the leader of the banned religious group.
But Anwar never have lunch with Tok Guru Nik Aziz of PAS - his sekutu in PR.
Pelik betul

ReplyDeleteI think our PM is here to stay.

Huh, masa zaman pak lah ni lah hakim pencen pun dijemput balik buat kerja.
Elok lah dia berhenti, makin banyak orang dok menyumpah-seranah dia.
ReplyDeletePak Teh Selangor. said...

Ulama jenis apa yang mendoakan kebinasaan orang lain? Tak tau la kan, saya bukan pakar agama.
Tapi Nabi Muhammad S.A.W dulu pun tak mendoakan kebinasaan bangsa arab yang mencerca dan baling batu pada baginda masa awal-awal berdakwah dulu. Sebaliknya, baginda mendoakan supaya dibukakan pintu hati mereka agar menerima hidayah.
Ntah la, bagi saya pelik laa orang dok mintak Allah Taala menyumpah-seranah orang lain bagi pihak diri dia. Nabi pun tak pernah buat. Ni kena tanya sapa-sapa yang arif hal ni.
okj, mesti ada bau bacang ngan najib kot. satu dunia dah tau scandal najib,yg kau tu sokong gak!!kesian
ReplyDeleteSalam,
ReplyDeleteMy prediction is Malaysia will be a failed state under Najib. His history and personality is `better' for PR compared to Pak Lah. I am not an admirer of Pak Lah, neither am I an admirer of Anwar. But certainly I don't like Najib. I have list of reasons. All the best for PR in the next election. What they need to do now is to capitalise on the latest liability of BN i.e. who else if not the up and coming new PM.
Datuk,
ReplyDeleteYour commentator like Pak Teh Selangor has to be naive to think that the meeting was an accident and the gist of the conversation was alltruism. Why should Anwar be bothered with Kamal or Khairy? Anwar is a us-trained conspirator. He was using those questions to bring doubt to Abdullah's mind. Anwar knows Abdullah cares alot for Kamal and Khairy.
So Anwar uses this fear to create doubt in Abdullah's mind that Kamal and Khairy may not be safe if he leaves. But Abdullah knows it was too late for him to trun back the clock. He had made a mistake by agreeing to retire early and not to defend the president's post. Now Najib had won the post uncontested. As Ketua Bahagian Kepala Batas, Abdullah cannot influence events in Umno, but he can through loyalists like Ali Rustom, Rahim Tambee Chik and Zahid Hamidi. Zahid is a snake. He plays both sides of the game and he has money.
So Pak Teh Selangor is naive to believe that they met by chance and only to seek the doa of the holy man whose ajaran was said to have been declared deviant by the former Mufti of Selangor. We are talking about PM and Opposition Leader here.
PM don't just attend a kenduri without administrative and security arrangements. Even the place had to be sprayed with mosquito killer before he arrived. This is standard procedure.
So Abdullah and Anwar had planned the meeting or agreed to the plan set out by the holy man so that they can plan their future strategies where Anwar will rely on Abdullah's loyalists to fight Najib and in return he'll save Kamal and Khairy, Kalimullah Hassan, Lim Eu Gin, Patrick Lim from attacks by Pakatan Rakyat.
I agree with you Datuk that Anwar is more afraid of Najib than he is of Abdullah. If Najib is a monster, Anwar was responsible for teaching him some of the monster tricks. Najib was Anwar's vice youth chief in Umno back in the eighties.
Salam.

Salam Dato',
Dear Aband Dir
ReplyDeleteI am dissapointed that you choose to lend credence to Malaysia Kini's report.
Malaysia Kini? Who are they and who are behind them.
Come on bro, you have better resources, connection and networks to get the true picture of the meeting.
It is just a lunch whete the two were invited by the host.
If picture tells the story, Andullah indeed looked uncomfortable.
And why, may I ask. can't the different political camps sit down together for lunch.
Plotting against Najib in front of everyone? Baloney.
As usual, Anwar is getting political capital on this do. Typical of him.
Yep, he wants Abdullah to stay on.
But it's not gonna happen.
You know it too.
Let's not play out Dollah in his last few days in office.
If you say the host and Anwar conspire to trap Dollah, I am inclined to believe.
Datuk,

ReplyDeleteMaybe you should revisit your comments on Najib taking the helm (i.e. your lengthy advise to Najib).
Does some of your advise still apply? Taking into account recent developments...
The Jury is still out on Najib and Rosmah.....
I'm also disappointed with Najib's Mini Budget. Whoever prepared it had little consideration for the little people.
Datok,
sekian

As'kum Dato',
ReplyDelete1.
Tiba2 out of the blue Pak Lah mendesak supaya ia diselesai segera dan ia memberi jaminan bahawa desakan penentang itu akan diambilkira.

Masalahnya dengan Pak Lah ni, he's a weak leader and whatever he does seems to be in the wrong. Kadang2 saya kesian jugak tengok dia but he has his own self to blame. Maybe the Fourth Floor Boys did not manage to brush him well enough other than brushing rakyat's wealth...
ReplyDeletemeeting is a positive move towards a bipartisanship politics here in Malaysia and who knows, maybe though least likely the forming of Malaysia first unity government in Malaysia.lnh tough times the government would require the support of all parties including opposition,NGO's to the common people.Remember during the aftermatch of the May13 incident,Malaysia got through because of the opposition like PAS,PPP,Gerakan and others join forces with BN to form a unity government.Of course in this context, history has shown us that joining BN would be unnecessary as you would be dumped after the are doing find, kso joining a government with them is the best solution for the country to tackle the problems that we are facing such as the worst economic crisis since the great depression for starters.
ReplyDeleteCan Abdullah be interrogated by UMNO Disciplinary Committee for his "spontaneous bumping" into Anwar?
ReplyDeleteAny potential leakage of UMNO's important info to Pakatan Rakyat?

Datuk,
ReplyDeleteCan you believe the guy who LIED to reporters the day before dissolving parliament to pave way for the last elections?
Pinch of salt, with Pak Lah, in one ear, out the other.
Sekian.
Dear Datuk AKJ,
ReplyDeleteI'm just so tired of all these games that politician play.
My resolve is to work hard and ensure that my students get the best of me :)
inilah masalahnya bila orang pandai menulis....buat spekulasi.
Saya kenal Datuk Seri Abdullah ketika berkawan akrab dengan Allayarham Encik Mohd Ali Bakar bekas pengarah pusat latihan belia negara Pertak.

Y.Bhg Datuk AKJ,
ReplyDelete1. Assuming for while that speculations about Pak Lah stays in power after Umno G.E are true, what could Umno's warlords do?
2. Assuming that Umno's warlords couldn't do anything, what would the scenario for the country be like?
Thank you.

NEW YORK – Saying he was "deeply sorry and ashamed," Bernard Madoff pleaded guilty Thursday to pulling off perhaps the biggest swindle in Wall Street history and was immediately led off to jail in handcuffs to the applause of his seething victims in the courtroom.
U.S. District Judge Denny Chin denied bail for Madoff, 70, and ordered him to jail, noting that he had the means to flee and an incentive to do so because of his age.
Madoff earlier spoke softly but firmly to the judge as he pleaded guilty to 11 charges in his first public comments about his crimes since the scandal broke in early December

Sdr Azman Mohd Isa, asked:
ReplyDelete1. Assuming for while that speculations about Pak Lah stays in power after Umno G.E are true, what could Umno's warlords do?
2. Assuming that Umno's warlords couldn't do anything, what would the scenario for the country be like?
My thoughts are:
Ngah
1. The convention that Umno President is automatically the PM will be destroyed;
2. Anybody can then challenged the right of Umno President to be appointed PM;
3. Party democracy will be sabotaged and perveted;
4. Umno will break into factions with the majority supporting Mohd Najib;
5. Those Umno members and supporters who voted the oppositions in GE 12, may not return to Umno;
6. Abdullah will be a lame duck PM;
7. There could be constitutional crisis and security issues;
8. The investors, local and foreign, will lose further confidence in the country;
9. The economic crisis will get worse;
10. Pakatan Rakyat is assured victories in the 3 by-elections to be held on April 7. One up for Anwar; and
11. The rest I dare not imagine.
Thank you.

ReplyDeleteLets not paint a picture as it Abdullah was the guilty one. In the first place, it was Najib working with TDM and Muhyiddin to pressure Abdullah to step down inspite Najib repeated public acknowledge that he will abide by the agreed timeline. There is no doubt UMNO is split and that got nothing to do with Anwar. In fact, the person responsible is TDM. So why is he complaining? I suppose Abdullah is now using the same prescription used by Najib previously on Najib. ie publicly stating he will abide by the timeline to handover but secretly doing the reverse.
ReplyDeleteIf Abdullah wants to discuss with Anwar, it would not have done that way. Who know, they could have met several times already. This one is done deliberately to show to Najib supporters. With so many people present, nothing could be discussed but the intend was to show to Najib and his supporters that Abdullah is still influential and don't play out his men.
What ever their excuse or justification may be, the meeting did tickle both camps into love hate ecstasy and mooted more speculations. Just let it be, but like Orang Islam, I can't help wondering how the ulama would pray with words of wrath like he did.
ReplyDeleteDatuk my two cents worth on the meeting between Abdullah and Anwar.
ReplyDelete[1] The meeting was to formalise the formation of the UNITY GOVERNMENT in the presence of a holy man, where the two made their commitment in shaping the new political regime for Malaysia.
[2]In a vote of NO CONFIDENCE motion brought by UMNO to topple Abdullah, Anwar together with a break away faction within UMNO will vote alongside the current opposition, which will see the motion defeated, with Abdullah remaining as PM, leading the way to the formation of a UNITY Government made up of UMNO, PKR, PAS, DAP and parties from SABAH and SARAWAK
[3] The agreement was formalise by independent witnesses from INDONESIA and THAILAND to pave the way for early recognition by the neighbouring countries within ASEAN
[4] The deal was sealed in a solemn swearing ceremony as it is called a Bai'ah before a Holy person
[5] With the formation of the UNITY Government Abdullah will remain as Prime Minister, allowing him to elect ANWAR IBRAHIM as the Deputy PM and Cabinet Members made up of the different component parties of the UNITY Government.
[6] The formation of the UNITY Government will mean the beginning of the extinction of UMNO as a Malay Party
Thank you - please sue me if I am right in my conclusion of the historic swearing ceremony and damm me if I am wrong

"What happened today was historical, we hope IT WORKS!" Mohd Sayuti quoted an organiser of the event as saying.
ReplyDelete1) Kalau Pak Lah nak jadi hero last minute ni senang je, jangan lepaskan jawatan PM kat Najib.
Wallahua'lam...

Greetings to DAKJ & bloggers.
ReplyDeleteSalam Datuk, you have raised a very interesting topic entitled "Abdullah: No Agenda in the Meeting with Anwar". More interesting when you received positive and negative comments from all those who are closed to Pak Lah and Anwar Ibrahim.
For now, we should forget reports filed in Malaysiakini and Malaysian Insider, both had become obsessed with the oppositions lately. You and I know who are those behind both the alternative media of the opposition camp.
For the record, I happen to be one of those who appears to be close to Pak Lah and Anwar, both whom I have known since the mid 70s. Datuk, I don't wish to remain silence all my life and look so stupid when my good name was splashed all over the print and eletronic media, as one of former PM Mahathir's conspiracy men planted in WDC.What conspirarcy when I had better things to do during my tour of duty in WDC?
I am not a "maggi mee" celebrity by default but I do not know why people like Anwar, Azmin, KJ (i mean Kamarudin Jaafar)and Khalid Jaffar, who knows me had placed me in this kind of so called "degraded political conspiracy in their ploy to overthrow the BN government under former PM Mahathir".They even had a hand to shorten my tour of duty so that I could be re assigned back to KL prematurely before I could retire in peace.
I know in the name of Allah swt, my loyalty is with my government first, and my leaders and party (ie UMNO) second, and my other friends across the political, last but with caution from time to time.
I am convinced that I should be seen as a political gentleman, when everyone else started to sue Anwar and counter sue, etc. I don't want to get those "duit haram": even it,s for a hundred million dollar. Those who had framed me had died and gone, and I firmly believe if you "fitnah" orang yang tidak terlibat untuk bersubahad, maka balasan nya adalah di hikmah dan fitrah Tuhan yang Maha Esa.
As for Abdullah and Anwar's sensational lunch, I don't think we in UMNO/BN should place any importance to the lunch rendevous. Pak Lah always enjoy food and company of good old friends, while Anwar enjoys to be seen with controversial politicians and celebrities.
I believe we should not speculate, but perhaps the Sheikh himself should now speak up the truth and nothing but the truth. Now that Pak Lah is out and Najib is in to lead this nation, it is more important that we do not sucumb to the agenda of Anwar and his gang.
Who will believe the words of Sayuti or Ismail Yahya, both are up to their sleeves in the name of opposing UMNO/BN governance under Najib Tun Razak. Why should they so scared of the new PM? Maybe Anwar is shitting cold in his pants now, as Najib may finish him in his political dreams to be the next prime minister in waiting. Anwar can wait and I believe Najib will be in power firmly with his one ear on the ground, the other ear on the fence and listen to the people until 2023. ie 14 years from now, insya-Allah.
You and I know what is in the mind of Anwar, when he is furiously encouraged by what's happening in Thailand, and God forbids will not happen in Indonesi after their Presidential Election. May God bless Malaysia, Najib and his dynamic team to lead us all Malaysians for some ray of hope and aspirations, with political and economic stability, now that national security is in the good hands of Hishammuddin Home Affairs) and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi(Defence). Hidup Malaysia Hiduplah Bangsa berlandasan kepada Satu Malaysia!
