PH is Not a One-term Government

A Kadir Jasin

PREAMBLE: Views expressed herein are entirely mine. I am writing in my personal capacity as a blogger. It has nothing to do with whatever position I may hold.

Dr Mahathir: PH has rid the country of kleptocracy
AFTER just over nine months in power – replacing the Barisan Nasional (BN) that had ruled the country for 61 years – the Pakatan Harapan (PH) has actually made a pretty good progress for itself and the country.

First of all, as the Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, reflected recently, Malaysia is no longer a kleptocracy.

[Anonymous comments will not be published. Please use real or pseudonym. Thank you.]

But he also lamented that having chosen the democratic ways, both the leaders and people must learn to accept the good and the not-so-good aspects of democracy.

Secondly, the problems facing the people are being attended to in a more systematic and transparent manner with a longer-term view of making "shared prosperity" the basis for sustainable wealth creation and distribution.

He and his cabinet members and coalition leaders admitted openly that many of the expectations of the people are yet to be met and some electoral promises may have to be modified to make them realistic and implementable.

They acknowledged that the support of some segments of the people has declined as was seen in the Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections in which the PH failed to wrest the former and lost the latter.

Democracy, as he put it, is a double-edged sword. It can hurt its bearer as much as it can protect him.

The ministers and party leaders may be using the democratic space to advance the interest of the people but to the people it appears that they are fighting with each other.

So the Prime Minister’s advice is from now on they should think harder before they talk, look before they leap and discuss with the cabinet and the PH on important matters.

“What difference does it make whether they wear black or white shoes?” he asked.

“Yes, cigarette smoking causes cancer but how do we know whether the smokers are three metres away from the restaurants?”

And, in jest, he quipped that flying cars would not generate too many votes.

“And what is Malaysia Baru? Is it exclusively about the election manifesto?” asked the Prime Minister.

If the promises were unrealistic and the actions taken thereafter had caused hardship to the people and put the country at the risk of default, the government must be willing to backtrack.

This does not mean the government will overlook corrupt practices in the award and implementation of the Barisan Nasional (BN) era projects and contracts.

It is for this reason that the government had reversed its decision on the MRT and LRT projects, reconsidering the ECRL and putting on hold plans to disband several BN era departments and programmes.

Justice for the People

The people are right in wanting justice served on the former Prime Minister, (Datuk Seri I Mappadulung Daeng Mattimung Karaeng Sandrobone Sultan Abdul Jalil) Mohd Najib Abdul Razak.

They are becoming impatient with the seemingly protracted courts cases against him and his co-conspirators.

The longer Najib is allowed the freedom to make mockery of the law, the greater is the risk of the people seeing justice as favouring the rich and the powerful. Or worse still he is not guilty.

The spirit of the separation of power among the Executive (Government), the Legislative (Parliament) and the Judiciary (Judges) does not mean that each operates in a vacuum.

Certainly they have to consider each other's interest because in the final analysis they are collectively and severally responsible and answerable to the people.

Although the Prime Minister had said that he was surprised at the response to Najib’s “Malu Apa Bossku” campaign, I personally see this street-peddling stunt as nothing more than the last meal of a death row convict.

Najib knows his time is running out and he has to make the best use of it.

In fact with each passing day that he is allowed to make mockery of the people, the worse it becomes for Umno and the BN.

In nine months after the last May 9 defeat, Umno has had three presidents – Najib, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and now Mohamad Hassan in the acting capacity.

If they can they don’t want Najib to meddle in their affairs. His “Malu Apa Bossku” is not about enhancing Umno’s tattered image but to promote himself among the kapcai-riding Malay youth.

Still the law must be allowed to run its course. The PH government cannot not do to Najib what he did to his enemies and to the institutions of the state. Najib has no qualm about perverting the laws to his advantage.

One Year Approaching

As the one-year milestone approaches, the PH will be subjected to greater scrutiny by the people, the press and investors.

To pass this public relations and confidence test, the PH has to improve its story-telling. It may even have to consider rearranging or even firing some cast members.

The plot and narrative must be understood and believed by the people and the cast must be respected. There is no role for clowns and comic characters.

Ministers, Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers must engage in self-examination and, where necessary, self-criticism.

Don’t rush to blame the press and the people if the flying car story flew past their heads and the government is seen as inept, arrogant and aloof.

Moving ahead, the PH must work hard and smart to fulfill the aspirations of the people and to prove to them that it is not a one-term government. It is here to stay.

Wallahuaklam.

Please give some thought on this too.Race and religion inflammatory comment need to be stopped NGO roles need to be reviewed because they are non elected persons as such let the Government issue the statement on important national matters.

    Datuk
Yahoo, the rakyat is fully behind the PH govt in signing the Rome statute.
    To borrow some comments:
The Rome Statute governs the International Criminal Court (ICC) which tries four core international crimes, namely genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and crime of aggression. Unless if one is thinking of committing any of these crimes, then everybody should be thankful for this. It safeguards our safety to being treated unjustly.
The Rome statute is a noble intent to bring all the countries to agree to principles governing war against humanity and genocide.
The Government has already briefed the Agong.
TMJ is certainly entitled to his views and can express his views through the proper channels and not come into the public space. Don't want any misunderstanding to arise.

  4. Salam Dato Kadir

Kedua, Dato suruh pemimpin PH buat kerja “work smart”. Ini pun salah jugak. Nak work smart, kenalah bijak dulu. Masalahnya, pemimpin PH yg tak ada degree pun satu masalah, yg menipu degree pun satu masalah jugak. Pendek kata, mereka cuma smart dalam bercakap, membelit & kelentong sijil jelah. Dah tu macam mana Dato’ nak suruh pemimpin PH “work smart”. Pening !! Pening !!!!!.

Ketiga, kalau nak dakwa Najib, dakwa jelah. Kenapa pulak bagi tekanan kpd peguam beliau, Tan Sri Shafiee, Dato’ Hafarizam. Tak gentleman langsung. Rakyat Malaysia nak tengok kebenaran dgn adil. Ini belum apa-apa, dah nampak tak adil. Dato’ juga kata dulu justice should not only be done, but should manifestly and undoubtedly be seen to be done. Tapi bila kena ke PH, lain pula cerita. Apa ni??? Tun Mahathir dulu bukan main marah kerana peguamnya kena sekali sebab nak defend Dato’ Khairuddin. Sekarang, apa cerita ????

Terakhir, saya nampak Dato’ ni makin lama, prinsip kemelayuan Dato’ dah semakin hilang dah. Izinkan saya tegaskan sekali lagi. Adil dalam Islam bukan bermaksud sama rata Dato’. Dato faham tak. Sekarang Dato’ tanya diri sendiri definasi Adil Dato’ ikut siapa, ikut Islamkah atau ikut kafirkah ????? Sekian, TQ.

    Dear Dato,

isn't it not so ? justice favoring the rich ?

I can only imagine the new world record set on delays of court preceding surpassing Anwar's.

guy has money. money = delayed justice.

we the people already accepted it.

money is everything even in Malaysia. Point in case, recent entry by Outsyed's "Private Hospitals Ripping Off The Public". I have been saying how immoral it is for that drugs to be sold at an impossible price for the marhain people. But we the people already accepted it. Another alternative would be the gov hospital which, well, do I have to say more.

money is indeed king in Malaysia. For example the cost of living is still high as ever. I don't see it as the current Government fault (well to some extend maybe it is). It would seem like the business community are very well taken care of and are very protected. For example the use of excuses such as high cost of gas (minyak) to increase the price of teh tarik. But when the gas price is down, the teh tarik price never get reduced.

The same thing can be said for almost every purchasable items. WHY is the government allowing such greed ? This cannot be dealt with subsidies, instead relevant party just need to reduced their damned price !

Waiting for the people to finally said we are done, I'm not buying anymore, by then knowing Malaysians, it would already be too damaging.

But well maybe this is a problem of the world so much as it is for Malaysia. Perhaps it is too much to hope for better for Malaysia in this case.

Malaysian, in general, be it the voter or the politician, use 3rd world country as their benchmark ie we are better than Indonesia instead of we should as good as switzerland, singapore or norway.

So dont expect any appreciation from Malaysian for everything PH did good. Afterall you want to be the goverment and do accept all the bashing fron the public and opposition.

You have been there and done that before, dont you.

So just do your best for what you have promised to the people if PH want to be a 2 terms gomen.

    Cheers.

Kita mengerti PH baru setahun jagung.

Perlu diingat... Tidak semua pengudi PH dapat dibanggangkan.

WAKE UP PLEASE...and if you think that you love your menteriship too much and the voice of the people are just noises...so be it. That will be the begining of the end for PH.

BN is dead because of umno's parasites. It seems PH is showing the early symtoms as well.

Yang pahit itu selalunya ubat yang mujarab. Dr. M lebih mengetahui...

    Saudara OKJ,

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHP9fCmpTcA

Sepertimana saudara kata, "Justice is not only be done but it must be seen to be done"

Maknanya keadilan bukan sahaja mesti dijalankan tetapi ternampak dijalankan".

Saudara OKJ, saudara perlu banyak membaca.

    Datuk,

The prosecution has argued that allowing former premier Najib Abdul Razak’s lawyers wider access to documents for seven SRC International Sdn Bhd charges will hamper the prosecution’s case and affect the way criminal proceedings are conducted in the country.
This was contended by lawyer V Sithambaram (above), who is part of the prosecution team, on behalf of the government before the Putrajaya Court of Appeal today..

The rakyat is fully in support of the honorable V Sithambaram.
There must be no special treatment given to the defendant and his team.

There are serious risks involved by granting Najib and his lawyer equal access.
Witness tampering, possibility of inserting false witnesses to preempt an indictment given the immense resources available to the defendant, and other risks.
If the defendant is innocent and has nothing to hide, what is wrong with telling the truth at all times, especially under oath?
This is simply their delaying tactics in abusing the legal process, and the honorable Judges should be fully cognizant of such trickery.

Strange now that the shoe is on the other foot, Shafee's screaming.
Did Anwar Ibrahim get the benefit of access to all prosecution documents when he was convicted of sodomy by the then AG appointed "hot shot" prosecutor? Did the prosecutor not continue to prosecute him "pro bono", through a nationwide road show after he was convicted and locked up? What "fair play" is this hot shot talking about?

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said the government is open to studying various options on the future of loss-making Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB).

Speaking at a press conference in Parliament, Mahathir said the government must urgently consider the various available options, including shutting down the national flag carrier.

We all recall just very recently before GE14, the previous PM flew to the USA and sat down with Pres Trump and declared that Malaysia will make USA great again, and will purchase so many Boeings that will make your eyes water.

Muhammad Shafee told the court he had fractured his wrist while playing with his pet dog recently and was in too much pain to continue the hearing today.
Surely his lawyer son and other members of his team can stand in for him.

Despite Attorney General Tommy Thomas’ objection to Muhammad Shafee’s request to move the date to Friday, the bench led by Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof agreed to postpone the hearing.

We are all bewildered that Shafee's request was allowed. There must be something that the defence team is waiting for. Think carefully.

absolutely surreal Shafee's excuse of a broken arm caused by his pet dog.
Surely the court asked for an ex-ray scan of his injury on the same day, takes only less than an hour.
He can be charged for lying and contempt of court if the xrays dont prove his claims.
Nevertheless true or not, one wonders if the court could have demanded that another lawyer on his team take over. What if Shafee has a heart attack and is incapacitated? It may take months or years to recover.
Another day, Shafee may say someone gave him a black eye.
The audience surely can see he is making a travesty of our judiciary.
It reflects very badly on the court and the justice system.

    1. Keadilan yg dilewatkan magna keadilan dinafikan ( ‘justice delayed is justice denied’).
    2. Keadilan bukan saja kena dilaksanakan tapi kena nampak di laksanakan.
    3. Sesorang yg kena tudoh, tak besalah sehingga diisytihag besalah olih mahkamah.
Lantaran tu jugak, keadilan bukan saja tak nampak dilaksanakan, malah dilaksanakan pon dak. Dan guna perinsip
no 3, MOI masih tak besalah.
Rakyat yg tetekan dgn kos sara hidop yg tinggi, dihidang dgn berita jinayah melampau saban hari, sisa2 feudal yg belagak sakan,

  24. What fate can you anticipate from PH If Tun M is expected to hand the helm over to someone whom is known as ever vexatious with a string of self-incurred bad 'heroic' deeds, and worse still, the latest purported plot of no-confidence vote against Tun. It is so very unbelievable that the game plan literally comes from within PH itself. It will backfire should it really happen and become the greatest laughing stock of the world. Tun M had once said, he had got rid of one crook, and cannot afford to take in yet another one. What does he mean? The behaviour of an unbefitting and unbecoming 'drooling-in-waiting' will bring out the worst in him to shorten the lifespan of PH should he continue to buzzing around like an annoying mosquito. If the worst comes to the worst, I believe, Tun will just dissolve the parliament to finish off PH there.

Next, replace a more competent and knowledgeable DPM ahead of a new cabinet lineup if PH were to survive longer. In fact, it is long overdue to forfeit someone who is not at all quick-witted and lacks aptitude to make spontaneous and precise decisions in need of time. Just because of conforming to the 30% allocation of women on board, PH had to turn a blind eye to the criterion of capability of someone who actually failed to qualify to be appointed. Is this meant by equality between men and women? Come on, DPM is a no-joke job. 'dahulukan rakyat, utamakan negara', is the slogan to latch on. PH is not merely for someone's sake to fulfill the dream and the making of history. It is the hope and future of a better Malaysia to live in.

  26. Yes deport them immediately5:39 PM

    Datuk,

Police have dismissed a claim by Anwar Ibrahim criticising the decision to deport a group of foreign nationals accused of terrorism despite fears of them facing torture in their home countries.

Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun also denied that police had acted unilaterally in deporting the men, saying it was approved by the deputy public prosecutor.

“When we got the order from the DPP on the deportation, we carried it out immediately.

“We want to thwart their network and activities as soon as possible. It is a serious threat,” Fuzi told reporters today, reacting to Anwar’s statement yesterday claiming that the police failed to consult the relevant ministers on the matter including Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Very very correct IGP Fuzi. We do not want sympathizers, wannabe terrorists who use Malaysia as a resting place or stopover to carry out further terrorist acts or attacks in the country or out of the country, they have no place in our country. Kick them out by the fastest available means, the longer they stay in the country, many will be duped by these people.
Very wise decision by the AGC.
If people like Anwar is a sympathizer to their cause, he can follow them back.
Look at how Zakir Naik attached himself like a leech here.

If Amnesty cries, they can also follow them back.

Again, there is no place for such people. Thank goodness PDRM located them, and the AGC approved their deportation.

    Datuk,
    This is going overboard.
Police are investigating the organisers of last Saturday's Women's March in Kuala Lumpur under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948.

In a statement today, the organisers said they are also being probed under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

If convicted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, a person can be slapped with a three-year jail term, or RM5,000 fine, or both.

"(We) will comply with the process despite these laws being unfairly and disproportionately being used against us," said the organisers.

The International Women's Day March last Saturday had, among others, called for an end to child marriage and gender-based violence.

However, this message was overshadowed by the focus on the presence of some participants from the LGBT community.

Can you stop people from attending? They also support opposing gender based violence, child marriages which was the main theme of the march.

PDRM should instead step up catching terrorists and deportng them pronto.
These are the real risks to our beloved country if they are not caught.

    Datuk,
The "Malu Apa Bossku" feel good campaign for youngsters by the former PM reminds me of the popular Malay folks tale "Si Luncai". When Si Luncai was arrested for his certain misdeeds and carried under guards in a boat, he thought out an escape plan. He composed a song with a very clever lyrics "Si Luncai Terjun Dengan Labu-labu nya" and coaxed the guards to sing the chorus "Biarkan-biarkan" together with him. The guards were so happy and gleefully singing the song without realizing the words of the song was just what it meant. Well as the story goes, when the time came for him to jump from the boat to make his escape, the guards keep on singing, even though one of them noticed his escape and shout the alarm.
Back to present day, when the time comes for the former PM to be sent to prison there will be shouts of "Malu Apa Bossku". It will cushioned the shame, no?

  32. Contempt of court9:41 AM

    Datuk,

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak slipped out of the Court of Appeal for a toilet break (according to Shafee) without informing anyone, including his lawyers, and this caused proceedings to be adjourned briefly.

During his lawyer Harvinderjit Singh’s oral submissions, Justice Zabariah Mohd Yusof, who chaired the three-person bench, noticed that Najib was not present in court.

How is it that only the judge noticed his absence, and was Najib reprimanded by the honorable judge when he came back? This is a serious breach of court proceedings.
Contempt of court can be handed a custodial sentence.
It seems once again Najib has allowed the court, judges, lawyers to be a laughing stock to Malaysians and the world.

Goodness, if Najib decides to make a run for it ? His lawyers will say they have no knowledge, imagine who will take the blame: His lawyers, the judges? PDRM ? Prosecutors?

Outgoing Malaysian Bar president George Varughese has called for slightly longer tenures for the posts of chief justice, Court of Appeal president, chief judge of Malaya and chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

“Only then will they be able to make changes and put in place the reform agenda,” Varughese, who served as Bar president for two years, said in an interview with the media here today.

Adding that gender should not be a consideration in the appointment of these positions, he said women judges should be given the opportunity to hold such posts as well.

“Nothing wrong with a capable lady holding the position of chief justice,” he said.

For those deserving, their terms should be extended.
For those who have are biaised toward the change in govt, they do not need to be extended.

  34. Silly Saifuddin Nasution12:06 AM

    Datuk,

Another silly man who demonstrated his silliness in the PKR party elections by his biaised remarks, that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will let the Parliament decide on Beluran MP Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee’s position as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this was because the appointment was under the jurisdiction and responsibility of the Parliament.

Already Ronald Kiandee reappointed for another term, so is Saifuddin Nasution illicitly showing his true colours and trying to sabotage the PM?

  35. I don't really care if pH will be a one term goverment@ wonder. Caring does NOT make me a happy rakyat. I'm more into the keresahan melampau mode.

To me, the pH goverment has robbed me of my steady income doing small biz. People are suddenly tightening their belts after LGE continuos rants of 1 trillion national debts. The sale of many many GLC assets. The supposed hank panky in Tabung Haji. The offs and ons of ECRL project.

What troubles me most after May 9 2018, my non Muslims neighbours are strangely less friendly. Day in day out there are so many issues that make a simple minded rakyat like me more resah.
