UPDATE (read here)

ORIGINAL POST

THE PLOT thickens.
The mystery deepens.

The Prime Minister’s wife, (Datin Paduka Seri) Rosmah Mansor, was anonymously proclaimed the “most powerful woman in Malaysia”.

The proclamation was made in a full-page anonymously placed advertorial in The Star newspaper today entitled “10 Most Powerful Women in Malaysia” (in red) and with the strap line “We celebrate the economic, political and social contributions of these women to society”.   (Page 5).

She tops the list that includes in descending order Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz (Bank Negara Governor), Michelle Yeoh (Actress), Ambiga Sreenevasan (Bersih co-chairman), Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR Member of Parliament), Hannah Yeoh (DAP State Assembly member), Teresa Kok (DAP Member of Parliament), Geethanjali G (Entrepreneur/Actress), Jamelah Jamaluddin (Banker) and Marina Mahathir (Malaysian Aids Council).”
                                              Geethanjali G, Actress/Entrepreneur

A check with the MCA-owned newspaper yielded little. The advertorial, according to the paper's advertising department, was inserted by “sendirian berhad” company, which The Star declined to identify.

Of Mohd Najib Abdul Razak’s wife, the advertorial says: “Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, as wife of the Prime Minister of Malaysia wears many hats. She is the President of the Welfare Association of Minister’s Wives (Bakti). She holds the position of patron of various associations, among others are Children in Hope Foundation, Malaysian Nature Society, Malaysian Society of Orthopedically (sic) Handicapped, Malaysian Aids Council, National Heart Institute Foundation, Thalasemia (sic) Association, National Athletes’ Welfare Association, the Foundation for the Development of Underprivileged Children and many more. She is also the Patron of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), as well as the President of the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia.”

                                         Hannah Yeoh and Nurul Izzah

The text of the advertorial refers to “we”, “our annual snapshot”, “we applied three metrics: money, media presence and impact” and “we select women who go beyond traditional taxonomy of the power elite.”
Dr Jamelah of Kuwait Finance House

It ends its proclamation with the slogan “Empowering Women For A Better Future”.

But who are “the we” behind the award?

Mystery, mystery.

Look closely at the names. It’s the men behind the women

If some anonymous guy were to say not so good things about Rosmah, the long arm of the Law will be applied to trace and book that fellow.

However, in this STAR full page ad, the anonyumous fellow will be rewarded with titles and contracts soon. Then the guy will display himself in full page .

DAP women must be fantastic. I can almost smell South-of-the-border DNA in this advert in the gunting-dalam-lipatan MCA mouthpiece. Remember LKY's infamous visit on LGE and Nicky of the Serambi Makkah fame soon after the results of GE 12 were known. What it took to appease UMNO was just that nominal paying of homage to Kak Mah and the rest of the insult smelt roses.

Salam Datuk,

Jarum halus,Datuk,"the most powerful"...impak nya pada PM kita jua...

Ingat lah, kita mesti menjadi lebih bijak lepas PRU13 ni... sebab nya selepas lebih 50tahun merdeka,"cop melayu bodoh itu semakin menjadi-jadi pula".

Kia mesti FOKUS kepada:-

It is very funny. They want to celebrate the women who support PR but did not have the guts to do it openly. At the end of the day Rosmah would be getting the bad names for her position. Many of those women in the list were unknown to the majority of Malaysian women.

borhan said...

Anybody can come with the list. Put any woman you like and give them numbers 1 to 10 or 1000.the list can go on as you like..no source who made it. no criteria given. better come up with list of most beautiful women in malaysia...

Salam Saudaraku AKJ,

Agreed that this column had profiled all Malaysia' s power ladies. Some with front support while others may have back supporters. However, why was the prestigious position of First Lady deliberately left out in the name of Kak Rosmah? Are Malaysians proud of her national title as there should be some respect for the PM's wife! Please clarify this issue without prejudice!

Dato.

Wanita UMNO perlu dirombak besar-besaran.
Shahrizat dan proksinya undurlah.

Nasib baik ada tersenarai Isteri PM Najib Rosmah.

Kaum ibu UMNO/PAS apa dah jadi.

Jumpa lagi.Terima kasih.

Salam Dato'.

Dengan menggambarkan Rosmah sbg The Most Powerful Woman in Malaysia saya melihatnya dari sudut yg lain sebagai satu pembunuhan karakter (character assassination) buat DS Najib & Rosmah sendiri (mungkinkah?).

Kelihatannya seolah-olah satu pengesahan kepada khabar2 dunia maya tentang peranan Rosmah yang membayangi DS Najib.

Salam Datuk..

DiMalaysia dengan menyebut " The most powerful women" (The Star) boleh mengundang persepsi "negetive" dikalangan rakyat..

TQ Datuk.

Tok Kadir,

No question whatsoever that Rosmah is the most powerful woman (wife) in Malaysia economically, politically and socially. She has strong influence in economic, corporate and contractual decisions of the Prime Minister, if not herself very wealthy. Tok, you had dealt with the rich and the powerful in your time. You once told us that the back door is sometimes wider than the front door.

Rosmah's power was recognised and acknowledged much earlier by Singapore"s grand old man Lee Kuan Yew when called on Rosmah some years ago and said she and Najib were a perfect couple.

Ask JJ, Ahmad Maslan, Omar Ong or even Sanusi Junid of Rosmah's role in the recent GE, and they would tell you that she was more forceful and action-oriented than Najib.

The real mystery is who made this selection and paid for the ads. Is this an inside job? Act of self praise? Or the kaki amnpu at work. But why so many PR women? Is this a Pakatan way of using Rosmah to further weaken Najib? But who is this Ghitanjali G? How could she be in the company of Rosmah, Zeti, Michelle Yoeh, Jamelah and Marina?

I smell something foul in all this. The normal practice is for the newspaper to print the word "Advertorial" when the write-up is not an editorial write-up and is paid for by the advertiser. Could The Star be part of the conspiracy?

Apa nak dihairankan Datuk, kalau tak ada anugerah Wanita Paling Berkuasa pun semua orang tahu bahawa Rosmah Mansur (RM) memang berkuasa.

Kali ini tawarannya more sensible.
Kita menunggu respind dari Anwar.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Star, Wong Chun Wai called me to “explain” the mysterious advertorial. He said he was not informed of the advertisement before it was published. His investigations revealed the following:

1. It was bought by an NGO purported to be in the audit field with three Indian directors (presumably Malaysians).

2. It was contracted by a Punjabi man (presumably a Malaysian too) via an advertising agency called Bloomingdale Sdn Bhd.

3. All the “awardees” are well-known public figures with the exception probably of winner number 8 Geethanjali G, who was described as actress, entrepreneur and TV hostess.

A Google search found her on her twitter account, in which she described herself as “President Of G Global Media, ASTRO TV Host, THR Raaga Radio DJ/Announcer and Malaysian Television & Film Actress”. She was also finalist Miss Universe Malaysia 2009.

The presence of three young Pakatan Rakyat elected representatives and not a soul from the Barisan Nasional also raises questions about the people behind the award, their competence and motive.

Thank you.

Saya suka cara Tun Dr Siti Hasmah,Sempoi.

Lembah Tasnim said...

Salam datuk..

Memang misteri.. If Editor-in-Chief of The Star was not informed, selepas advertisement itu diterbitkan, pelik juga.

imejnya sendiri.

Semoga Rosmah pandai-pandai bawa diri agar tidak tercalar imej suaminya.

Tak salah jika Rosmah ambil alih seluruh kepimpinan Wanita UMNO Malaysia daripada Shahrizat yang makin luntur dan lesu dimata rakyat serta masih syok sendiri dikalangan wanita mereka.

Terima kasih.

Aslkum Dakj

Melihat kpd penglibatan dan perhatian yg diberi pihak media kpd RM , apakah tak mungkin beliau sebenarnya the most powerful person in Malaysia.

Terutamanya bila saya sering dengar bomoh dari India bebas keluar masuk istana.

Demi kuasa dan harta apa saja termasuk yg haram sesetengah org Melayu sanggup buat

Salam Dato and all,

Have mercy on her.She is merely the wife of the PM.Supporting the MAN and playing the role of the First Lady.On that basis alone she is a powerful lady. She is not a politician and she will not want to be one.Can we have that respect at least on her and leave her alone. The stressful PRU is just over for whatever the intention of this article sir.

Cari kerja nak buat rumah, repair ka.Sebelum tu,puak Burma(myanmar) bersepak seluruh Kedah.Dah ada nama Kampung Burma di Pendang kuala Sala.Itu setakat yang saya tau.Depa ni jugak buat kerja tukang rumah, bendang, motong getah, dsb.

Sebelum itu jugak lagi, mai puak Indon.Sama jugak kerja buat depa ni.Kerja macam-macam disapunya.

Sepanjang semenanjung depa kontrol.Ingat Tomyam, ingat Pettani...
