PRIME Minister Mohd Najib Abdul Razak, who celebrated his 100th day in office yesterday, announced a slew of measures as a gift to the people.

He also pledged to take drastic measures to fight crime and corruption.

Among other things, according to media reports, he announced a 20-percent discount for frequent pre-paid toll users and up to 70 percent reduction for driving license fees for motorcycle riders.

Other measures include:

1. Priority to tenants in the Federal Territory to buy the 44,000-housing units on offer;

2. Small traders and vendors in the Federal Territory will be given a 50-percent discount for their fee renewals.

He said, an appeal for the licence fee to be reduced was made at a function he attended with the Federation of Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Associations of Malaysia in Tanjung Karang, Selangor, last month.;

3. RM150 million will be allocated to Tabung Ekonomi Kumpulan Usaha Niaga (Tekun) and RM15 million to young Indian entrepreneurs;

4. More taxi permits to be issued. As of now there are 70,000 individual taxi permits and 3,000 more permits will be approved in the next three months;

5. Drastic measures to be taken to fight crime and corruption, the details of which will be revealed at the end of this month;

6. Overcoming the birth certificates issue in Sabah and Sarawak. Since 2005, Sabah has 36,000 applications and 92 percent of which have been approved. Sarawak has 19,000 applications and 80 percent of which have also been approved;

7. As of last month, 46 percent out of 34,000 delayed citizenship applications had been resolved. The rest will be resolved by year’s end;

8. More roads will be built in Sabah and Sarawak during the 10th Malaysian Plan;

9. Water and electricity supplies in Sabah and Sarawak will also be improved, details of which will be announced at the end of this month;

10. Some 20,000 family members of urban hardcore poor will be given 10,000 houses under Skim Amanah Saham Wawasan trust fund; and

11. A new RM10-billion “1Malaysia Trust Fund” will be launched and is open to Malaysians aged 18 years and above.

These and the hints that more good things are to come were made at a gathering of about 3,000 – including school children -- at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The announcements were in addition to the larger measures like opening up of the banking sector, the abandonment of the Bumiputera shareholding requirement for new IPOs and for 27 sub-sectors of the services industry, the abandonment of the teaching of science and mathematics in schools in English and the proposal to build a third bridge linking Malaysia and Singapore, which he had announced earlier.

Salam Datuk AKJ

Wallahua'lam.

Dear DAKJ

PM KPI

So, what do you thing about Dato’ Najib KPI. Are you satisfied or vise versa? It is not easy to become a prime minister especially to satisfy everybody. But for sure, his KPI is better than previous PM.

At least, he has a lot of idea to make Malaysia wealth and prosperity. He is not afraid to take oath in mosque; not like his competitor. He is also opened for a discussion with PAS regarding United Government; not like the one who claimed to be an Islamic Party but accused everything and anything towards UMNO. On the same time, they are not able to handle a pig slaughter house in Kedah.

He announced a discount; reduce highway tolls and going to built new roads in east Malaysia. He also replied email to the sender. Meaning, he knows the priority and implements all tasks according to priority. Thumb up. Sekian, TQ.

PM najib and warlords of UMNO have done it again.
Rather than resolving internal issues and malays woes, they rather sell their souls to other races in hope what they have in hands are not taken.
PM Najib and warlords have gathered enough war chests to live a life of happiness and cheerfulness forgetting that those who have helped them.
Looks like Pak Lah legacies continues. Mahathir mistakes won't be forgotten and Anuar claims lingers on.
how easily malays forget.

Datuk Scribe,

Ini kata Bernama Tok.

Speaking at the "100 Days of Najib with the People" function at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here, Najib said a 20 per cent discount would be given to users of the pre-paid Smart Tag and Touch n Go cards who pay toll 80 times or more in a month.

Jadi Datuk, macam Datuk kata dalam tampalan lalu, walhasil balik asal.

Betullah meritokrasi.

Kumpoi risit Yeop, kumpoi.Lepas tu kita bawa ramai2 jumpa Najib. Kalau tidak Yeop, melepas lagi kita.

India dapat RM15 juta Yeop. Tapi Najib tutup MeCD.

Parah jadi Melayu Yeop.

Assalamualaikum Datuk,

The only measure that troubles my mind is that of the 20% discount for the frequent pre-paid (Touch 'n Go and SmartTag) toll users. Why only pre-paid toll users? And why is it only for frequent users? Isn't it better if we revise the overall toll rates to help ease the burden of all road users?

It leaves a little bit of bitter aftertaste.

They can keep talking, but we will wait for the results. And we should expect change of dasar as and when they fail to deliver.

Y.Bhg Datuk,

Hehehe. Dah macam-macam sajak dah yang kita dengar ni....

Terima kasih

Congratulations, Najib. It is a great initiative. Long overdue to overhaul to whole economic system.
Stay focus and do what is necessary for the benefits of all Malaysians particularly the bumiputras. Forget about the 30% per cent quota. The best measurement to gauge whether the bumiputras are moving forward is to measure the percentage of quality of life they are enjoying especially the quality of life in the rural area. Get all the bimiputras out of poverty line (rural and urban poverty) and don't think so much of the 30% target. Emphasis should be given to get the bumiputra children the maximum opportunity and the best quality of education for them.

EDUCATION IS POWER !! That is the best tool to get the bumiputras stand on their own feet. They will survive with better education, no matter where you throw them even right in the centre of a barren island. Every bumiputra family members must have at least one professional.

Pasal nak bagi kerakyatan tu 100% tak setuju. Sebab apa?

Salaam, Dato'

I note that Sdr Syed Mahmod has posted a comment: "they rather sell their souls to other races...."

Could I please request the good Syed Mahmod to explain and justify his comment?

It seems to this humble writer that there appears to be a lot of angst and self-denial amongst certain quarters in the country about the economy, liberalisation, globalisation, competitiveness etc. All of which get conveniently lumped under tye issue of "race" and "privileges".

It's almost as if these quarters expect a "free ride" on the coat tails of liberalisation and globalisation. Or that they seem to be stuck in some kind of time warp where competition does not exist and benefits are guaranteed in perpetuity. It's almost as if Malaysia is some sort of Shangri-la where things should never change and where the sun always shines no matter how dismal the environment in the outside world.

Why, it's almost as if these quarters are afraid of competition. Or that they would prefer to have competition defined on their own terms and according to their own agendas. Or that they are in denial about basic economic facts.

It would be a tad rude to label such a worldview as "misguided" or "self-delusional", but I would be interested to find out why exactly Syed Mahmod and others who share his mindset feel, think and comment the way they do.

Dear Datuk KJ,

In a nutshell, it was worth waiting for when PM Najib took the opportunity to unveil his 100 days in office of the prime minister.

Najib has also chosen the "Ying & Yang" along with his favourite lucky number "11" as his push button to start his day. Well done Mr. Prime Minister but not all were roses of glory in your first 100 days as our PM.

Tun Mahathir's comments on Najib's 100 days were both sweet and bitter when he had defended his right to comment, just like all of us in the name of press freedom, etc. Perhaps, as a fellow Muslim either good or bad, Tun Mahathir should leave Tun Abdullah Badawi in peace and not to demoralise him, even if he is not in the same league
as himself.

Najib's 100 days in office will definitely go into history as part of the Razak's legacy for this nation. I opined that Najib's KPIs should not be assessed in his 100 days, but perhaps the next thousand days and beyond.

Najib is known to be a man in a hurry, but a highly misunderstood leader in the making. In life, nobody is perfect and borrowing the quote from Francois Fenelon, "It is only imperfection that complains of what is imperfect. The more perfect we are,the more gentle and quiet we become towards the defects of others."

100 day's assessment is too short to evaluate the performance of the prime minister,but some say that Najib has revealed a little to much and thus it has devalued his visionary agenda in the eyes of the public. In short,we can't expect to be measured in tandem to the momentum of Najib's speed and his mobility, which will give some negative effects that will only confuse the rakyat.

I believe Najib has successfully achieved what he had intended to do in changing the mindset of the people, with all his gimmicks and the handout of political, economic and social goodies. Some indecisive Malaysians are the most ungrateful lot, as they will not be happy or satisfy in whatever the BN government had offered during the last 52 years of governance.

It is not easy for Najib to unwind this negative perception of things that had been fueled by the emotions from the frustrated opposition camp. Under such a difficult situation, Najib should move forward and do what he believes is right for the people with absolute sincerity and transparency.

Najib has compromised to Tun Mahathir in the past when he was not appointed as the DPM by virtue of his political seniority, a blunder which Tun himself had admitted in public. Najib had compromised with deep respect to Tun Mahathir, but Najib should no longer compromise to those who just wanted to undermine or sabotage his political power and absolute authority as the incumbent prime minister.

THERE IS ONLY ONE PRIME MINISTER AND THAT IS NAJIB RAZAK, ELECTED THROUGH THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS WITH THE BLESSINGS FROM GOD ALMIGHTY.WE ARE ALL TARGETED AUDIENCE AND OBSERVERS AS PART OF NAJIB'S ADMINISTRATION.WE SHOULD CRITICISE CONSTRUCTIVELY WITHOUT NEGATIVE VIBES OR UNCONTROLLED EMOTIONS.

Hidup 1Malaysia and be part of Najib's vision and inspiration to build an equitable Malaysia for all of us as 1Malaysia and 1Nation.1Malaysia is a powerful communication tool between the PM and the people without any protocol or obstructions.

We should treat and value the 1Malaysia concept without being suspicious as a responsible Malaysian, not as an individual Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban or Kadazan by our national identity. Malay, Chinese, Indian, Iban or Kadazan by our national identity.

Non Malay said...

Honestly, all these don't bother me. I would prefer to see a freer media, transparency, a civilized police force, a non-partisan Judiciary, EC and MACC.
What's the point in being a santa claus if Democracy and good governance is dead, and the leaders protected from prosecution and remain above the law and Utusan Malaysia goes on to insult the non-Malays?
Najib falls flat if I bring up the Perak issue.

Bercakap pasal Amanah Saham ni, saya punya ASB pun jauh lagi nak sampai takat "tak buleh masuk" dah.

Macamana tu Dato?

In my humble opinion, it is way too early to judge Najib based on his first 100 days in office.

Furthermore, the quality of a leader should not be based by how much goodies he is providing as all these are possible by raising more taxes or reallocating tax money from one area to another. Otherwise, it will only result in higher government deficit which will burden the future generations.

I'm more interested to see how Najib can bring about more changes to the political structure of the country - more press freedom, more transparency, independent judiciary, independent police force, less corruption within BN and better ties between Malaysians of all races and religions. Malaysians deserve a government with more integrity.

Too many reforms in short time would be too dangerous to the people and the country. Hopefully Premier Najib do not get too excited about the reforms. Focus on result.

Do not too much excited in introducing 100 reforms but only 1 reform ended to be good for the people and the country.

Hopefully our Premier Najib is not out for reforms spree for God Sake.
Do not end up making earlier policies hay wires and remember every reform need time to materialize...if so.

We need a real policy with real substance. Do not indirectly let the Rakyat becoming guinie pig of the said reform.

More hope so it is about time our UMNO leaders to think and act smart.

I would like to repeat statement made by Tun M and would like to comment further :-

Asked about the relevance of the New Economic Policy, Dr Mahathir said it should be retained but the Malays should use it well.

“We found many abuses. A lot of approved permits were given, but they were sold. A lot of contracts were given, but they were sold. A lot of licences were issued, they were sold.

“It is the fault of the Malays. We have to correct it. It is not the fault of NEP, it is the fault of the Malays.”

comment:

Why this thing happens? Basically, the Malays do not appreciate how valuable those "gifts" given by the govt. Opportunity given but they abuse it. They are not willing to sacrifice the hard way how to go about in managing their business affairs. They want instant comfort and enjoy their life without having to undergo the hassle of learning and experiencing the actual trade. They are unable to utilise all the basic managment tools how to make their business successful. The Malays are not stupid but their simple attitude and lack of discipline make them fail in business.
They always blame the govt. as a scapegoat for their failures.In fact the govt. have provided all the tools available at their disposal ie. capital, training etc by setting up relevent agencies to help them and yet they prefer the shortcut way to success by selling the "gifts" given to them for immediate gain.

1. Secara ikhlas saya nyatakan bahawa sejak PM DS Najib mengambilalih tampok kepimpinan negara saya mula mempunyai keyakinan terhapanya dan Kerajaan BN. Nampaknya pada mulanya, walupun agak awal, I think he is moving on the right track to lead a stable goverment, SEHINGGALAH TPM merangkap Menteri Pelajaran mengumumkan pemansuhan PPSMI.

2. Bagi saya the first 100 days PM telah dirosakkan oleh pengumuman tersebut. Till now I still cannot accept their unrealistic explaination to abandon the PPSMI. The reasons given are unacceptable. To me the Ministers of Education during that six years period of its inception should be blamed for the failure of the policy. They should have monitored the effectiveness of the policy during such period and not just make their analysis only after the 6th years and then make their unreasonable conclusion to cancel the policy.

3. In fact I was told during the period the teachers have abandoned the usage of computer and LCD as their teaching tools. Most of the Science and Math teachers never make any efford to improve their teaching technic to make the subjects be more effective and interesting. And make matter worst no serious efford were made by the Ministry to review the approach. Should these corrections and improvements being made from time to time since its inception I am sure the outcome will be different.

Salam Dato',

Saya berasa hairan kenapa apabila ada seorang Melayu memberikan pendapat yang berbunyi:"they rather sell their souls to other races...."

Despite liberalisation, Bumi interests will be supported: Najib
By TEH ENG HOCK

KUALA LUMPUR: Bumiputra interests will be well supported despite the recent liberalisation moves, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Sunday.

He said that while the approach had changed, the aim of looking after Bumiputra interests remained.

“The success of the government and my administration depends on the KPI achievement.

He added that with the key result areas clearly spelt out, the government would be more focused as the yardstick had already been identified.

“We have to set a high target, but not too high until it is unrealistic. If the target was too low, then the people would think the KPIs were meaningless,” he said.

Najib said it would be more appropriate to measure the success of his administration after a full term and not in 100 days.

He also said that the moves announced by him were not populist but well-studied move for long term progress of Malaysians.

Najib made an intelligent statement. There is substance in his statement and sounds simple and logical. Very scientific approach in his presentation. He has done his homework quite well for the last 100 days. He has got a very clear mind. I think he will shine as a Prime Minister. Tak malu lah !! Thumps up for him. Hopefully, he will not make big "political blunders" along the way.

After his 100 days he is nothing more than a fire brigade man putting out bush fires here-n-there.

After his 100 days he is still clueless on what needs to be done so that the average person on the street can feel the difference.

Or isn't the whole crux of the matter is that even before his 100 days got started, we've already know that we can't make a silk purse out of...?

YBhg Dato'

Assalamualaikum.

Dear Datuk,
I hope all readers here remember these "gifts" is actually your money. These doesn't come out from Najib own pocket but from your coffer paying to the government via various taxes. Najib is doing effort to make him a popular PM to grab back the states that been lost to the oppositions. Will this make those "old sins" be forgiven? even murder? Bigger topics have been sidelines, how do we battle the bigger corruption cases.

Assalamualaikum Dato',

The annoucement by PM Najib in my personal opinion is somehow lacklustre. It does gives reasons for some quaters to celebrate but I cannot see any reason to celebrate.

At least he did announce some sweeping measures to upgrade the livelihood of the people regardless of their race. Hindraf shouldn't complain much now and so do the Chinese. However, a lot of damage has been done to the overall well-being of the Malays.

I do not want to comment much on the 'goodies' announced recently because I am more concerned on the fate that Malays in the country would face in the future. In order to gain support from other races, the Malays are being compromised. There were those who posted comments on your article by saying that Malays should be willing to compete rather than seeking hands-out from the Government. I am not of afraid of competition and I am willing to compete in business terms to say the least. The reality is somehow on the contrary. I am involved in the manufacturing and fabrication of electrical components. My list of clients includes Panasonic, Daikin, Dunbush and Hitachi. Sadly, I cannnot supply direct to these companies and have to go through their main vendor and they are mostly run by Chinese. Most of the senior post in the multi-national companies are controlled by Chinese and when a bumi company like me wanted to get a piece of the business, I have to basically beg to be given a chance. I have gone through great pains to develop my company and I wonder what would happen to me if not for the government policy like the DEB.

We open up and librealise the economy but will the other races like Chinese open up to a deserved bumi entreprenuer and give them the chance accordingly? I have worked through toil and sweat for the recognition that I badly yearned. I have to admit that there are Malay businessmen and entrepreneurs that have not performed to expectation and keep asking the Governement for assistance. The governement in turn have gave them numerous opportunities but they still fail in their quest. However this does not mean that all Malay businessmen and entrepreneurs are the same. When we talked about level playing field then in must be in practical and not theoritical.

I have no ill-feelings and do not begrudged the success of the Chinese and I try to emulate them. In reality, the Malays must work extra hard to achieve what the Chinese have gained all this while. In my humble opinion, the policy of DEB/NEP or Dasar Pembangunan Negara or whatever they want to call must remain in force not because we Malays are afraid of competition or lazy but because other races like Chinese are so well ahead of us in the field of business and if the Government do not impose such a pre-condition, there is no way that the Chinese business people will open their doors to deserved Malay businessmen and entrepreneurs.

Salam.

Selangor MB To Seek Mufti's Approval To Use Baitul Mal Funds For Development

SHAH ALAM, July 13 (Bernama)-- Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim wants to meet state Mufti Datuk Seri Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid to discuss the possibility of using Baitul Mal funds for development and administration purposes.

comment:

Khalid jangan nak cuba memandai-mandai nak gunakan tabong Baitul Mal.

MACC Report Lodged Over Sale Of Kampung Buah Pala Land

PENANG, July 13 (Bernama) -- The Penang government on Monday lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) urging the commission to investigate the sale of a piece of land in Kampung Buah Pala, Bukit Gelugor, here.

The report was lodged by the two deputy chief ministers Mansor Othman and P. Ramasamy at the Penang MACC office at about 3pm.

Ramasamy told reporters that the state government wanted the MACC to investigate why the land, which was priced at RM6.42 million, was sold at 50 per cent discount to Koperasi Pegawai Kerajaan Pulau Pinang.

comment:

The State Government is trying to divert attention simply because the Chief Minister is jammed for not having the solution to resolve the issue. Again he is trying to find a scapegoat.

Looks like gift giving had caught the imagination of our political leaders.

It started with the former(?) Perak Government upgrading thousands of Temporary Occupation Licences to Permanent Titles.

Selangor's new government followed suit with free water supply for the first 200 (or so) cu. meters per household per month.

Not to be outdone, the new Penang government expressed it's readiness to award land in Kampung Jalan Buah Pala to its settlers, if it could afford it or if somebody else could be tricked into paying for it.

And of course the Federal Government, having a much bigger purse-string, has got to announce a gift of eleven items, presumably to make up for as many states that had not been covered. Or, is it meant to coincide with somebody's lucky number, like number thirteen to the former PM?

And let's hope this phenomenon would never end, unlike durian runtuh, because durian runtuh only occurs seasonally.

In local context, political parties are divided into two factions. They are coalition A and B. There is no coalition C. At least for now.

At 12th GE, it was coalition A (PR) who made all sort of promises (in actual fact an empty one). This was part of PR quick fix strategy to gain supports.

More than that, PR even have a long lists of various "gifts" and "goodies" which would be deliver via air drops supposedly they struck big! It was an open secret at that time around.

Therefore, beyond a shadow of a doubt, it is actually PR who started this unprecedented trend of handing out all kind of unrealistic promises in a big way and nowadays we see it becoming part and parcel of being a 'celebrity'.

The good thing is, it helps PR to secure some seats. The bad part is, the most PR could do to fulfil its promises is by delivering those "gifts" in ones and twos.

1. Laporan sama penting dengan ulasan;

2. Kali ini saya tidak buat ulasan (atau belum buat) kerana tidak mahu mempengaruhi pendapat pembaca dan bembahas. Saya mahu mendengar maklumbalas sdra dan sdri;

4. Saya tak pasti kalau PM ada spin-doctor. Masing-masing kena perhati sendiri.

Ramai sangat beli kereta baru sekarang, tertarik dengan pakej zero downpayment, 9 years financing.
